Why does my hair stick up?!

This is a question that we are often asked and is supported by a one word answer: cowlick.  Okay, so what is a cowlick you ask?  It is a lock of hair growing in a different direction from the rest of the hair.  Basically, since our heads are round and not flat, the direction of hair needs to “swirl” in order to lay on our heads properly. Cowlicks are commonly found on the crown, but can be found anywhere on the head.  Most people have one cowlick, although  some people have several. cowlick

Men notice cowlicks more than women because they keep their hair shorter.  As stylists, we can’t change the way nature has your hair growing, but we can disguise cowlicks by cutting the hair a certain way. Depending on your particular problem, we may cut the cowlick short, or leave it longer for the best result. We can also recommend a styling product to help style the hair in a manner that works with the cowlick. If you are experiencing a cowlick problem talk to your stylist about it! We will be happy to find a solution that works for you!
